The Petanque Group meets at the Red Bull every Thursday morning from 10.15 to lunchtime. On the 4th Thursday (when the U3A Monthly Meeting is held) there is no meeting.
COST: £1 per person to cover pitch & equipment hire. "Bus Pass" lunches available at the Red Bull for £5.95.
This Group plays Petanque which is the most widely played of all the boules games that exist in France. However, It is a sport that is recognised world-wide.

Petanque is a pleasantly addictive sport, the rudiments of which can be learnt quite quickly. Technique is more important than strength or agility and tactical play requires careful thought, discussion and teamwork. It is therefore a very sociable activity. Our very own Andrew Lloyd is the U3A National Subject Adviser on Petanque and is keen to help all players achieve their chosen level. Several members of the Group also share in organising the weekly play and leaque participation.

During the year, the group play in the Cotswold League and Andrew also organises a National U3A Petanque weekend.
Costwold Petanque League

We will again be joining this leaque which will give our members the opportunity of gaining some experience in a competitive environment!

Opponents will include other Red Bull based teams and Cirencester U3A.

U3A Petanque Leage

The Group Leader has generated enough interest to create a small U3A Local League with Cirencester, Fairford, Highworth and Malmesbury.
National U3A Weekend of Petanque

After a very successful first ever U3A Weekend of Petanque on Hayling Island last Septeber, this will be repeated this year. This is an opportunity for Malmesburry members to meet like-minded members of other U3A - around 150 in all.
